Anthony Bolton is best known as one of the UK's most successful fund managers. For 28 years he ran the Fidelity Special Situations Fund, which became the largest unit trust in the UK. Through a city contact he met the composer Colin Matthews, who took an interest in Anthony's music and encouraged him to develop his skills. Colin introduced him to another of the UK's best-respected composers, Julian Anderson, with whom Anthony has studied since 2008.
In 2009 a CD of his music was released on the Guild label, in performance by Oxford Voices and Mark Shepherd, with harpist Sioned Williams. It included A Garland of Carols, a haunting homage to Benjamin Britten for upper voices and harp, and an anthem, My Beloved. Beyond choral music, Anthony's works span a wide array of genres and include a Fantasia for trumpet, four cellos and percussion; Black Sea, a cycle of five songs for tenor and piano; an Impromptu for solo harp (the latter two also on the Guild CD); an octet for wind and strings; and a wind quintet. In 2010 he was commissioned to compose a choral anthem for Save the Children's Anniversary service in St Paul's Cathedral.
