Jon Boden sits at the forefront of his generation of traditional folk artists; an artist whose repertoire extends far beyond the boundaries of the genre.

Boden was the lead singer (and one of the principal arrangers) of the multi-award winning contemporary folk band Bellowhead, whose fifth studio album Revival was released on Island Records in 2014, to mark the group’s 10th anniversary, ahead of their farewell tour in 2016.

As a total contrast to the eleven-piece Bellowhead, autumn 2016 saw Jon launch his live solo career with a performance at the Cambridge Folk Festival where he was the festival’s first guest artistic programmer, followed by dates at Snape Proms and Sidmouth FolkWeek. His recorded solo career goes back to 2006 with the release of his album Painted Lady (re-released with new bonus tracks in October 2016 to mark the album’s tenth anniversary) followed by the critically lauded Songs From The Floodplain which led to him being named Folk Singer of The Year at the 2009 BBC Folk Awards. He has toured several times since then with his own band The Remnant Kings, where the response was over-whelming with sold out shows and standing ovations.

Widely respected as an interpreter of traditional song, the solo shows also showcased Jon’s instrumental talents on fiddle, guitar and concertina, as well as his trademark ‘stomp box’ which he and John Spiers introduced into to the world of traditional music in 2001. Through his solo work and his work with Bellowhead and Spiers & Boden, Jon has won eleven BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

The album ‘Afterglow’ was released in October 2017 and continues Jon’s explorations of a post-oil world, this time following the course of two lovers over the night of a fire-lit city carnival.  The first single from the album ‘All The Stars Are Coming Out Tonight’ was playlisted on BBC Radio 2.

November 2019 saw the release of Jon’s fourth studio album ‘Rose In June’ via Hudson Records. Rose In June’ captures Jon’s inimitable folk storytelling backed by The Remnant Kings after they’ve been hardened by months on the road, the songs constantly evolving as they were performed by a rotating cast of members. The resulting album finds both Boden and band at the top of their games.

Boden’s compositional output is increasingly diverse, extending into choral, classical, dance and pop. He has composed music for both theatre and film, most notably two Royal Shakespeare Company productions at the Globe Theatre: The Merchant of Venice (2008) and A Winter’s Tale (2012). In 2013 he was commissioned to compose a version of Little Musgrave to be performed alongside Benjamin Britten’s work of the same name at the Aldeburgh Festival. 2013 also saw the debut of a new BBC2 comedy series Count Arthur Strong for which Jon composed and performed the signature music.
