Dame Evelyn Glennie, who was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2007 New Year Honours List, is one of the best-known figures in contemporary British Music.  An extraordinary virtuosic percussionist as well as an engaging personality, she has long been subject to considerable media interest.

Touring internationally as the world's first full-time percussion soloist she has played with all the world's major orchestras, consistently winning massive critical acclaim.  Her twenty-five solo albums (including twelve on the RCA/BMG label) have reached a remarkably diverse public, as have her numerous collaborations with musicians from the non-classical world.

She has performed with Indian, Indonesian and South American traditional musicians, and in the mid-'90s co-wrote and recorded several songs with Icelandic singer Björk, including the hit single 'My Spine'. Her 2000 solo album Shadow Behind the Iron Sun, produced by acclaimed rock music producer Michael Brauer, entirely comprises studio improvisations by Evelyn.

In addition to her life as a performer and recording artist, Evelyn has established herself a considerable reputation as a composer for film and television.  She was nominated for a BAFTA Award for her music for the first series of Lynda La Plante's ground-breaking crime drama Trial & Retribution (La Plante Productions for ITV), and went on to record many subsequent series of the show. Film credits include The Trenchwritten and directed by William Boyd, and (with Mark Knopfler) the Spanish feature film Altamira, directed by Hugh Hudson.

Evelyn's music is frequently heard (uncredited) on television, as a result of the many library tracks she has created for Audio Network.

Away from the airwaves, one of Evelyn's most popular compositions - though written when she was still a teenager - is A Little Prayer for solo marimba. Published as one of a collection of 'Marimba Encores' this delightful little chorale is of enduring appeal, and now exists in arrangements for solo piano, brass band, SATB chorus and euphonium and orchestra.  Evelyn has also contributed to the educational market with a set of piano pieces entitled Perpetual Motion, also arranged for marimba.

Evelyn was awarded the Polar Music Prize in 2015.
