Johann Sebastian Bach

(1685 - 1750)

A church organist and choirmaster as well as a composer, J S Bach wrote hundreds of pieces in many different genres. His works have provided inspiration to subsequent composers in the european tradition, and such was his contribution to music that he is often compared to the 'original geniuses' of Newton and Shakespeare in their respective fields.
