Joseph Haydn

(1732 - 1809)


Known affectionately as ‘the father of the symphony’, Haydn wrote 108 symphonies, as well as numerous string quartets, concertos, keyboard sonatas and vocal works. Born in Austria, he spent time in Italy and England, where he wrote his famous ‘London Symphonies’.
