London’s Barbican has announced a major focus on the music of Thomas Adès running throughout its 20/21 season, featuring over ten works. Celebrating Adès’ 50th birthday (2021), it is the largest UK celebration of his music since the ‘Traced Overhead’ festival in 2007.

The season includes a world premiere for the Australian Chamber Orchestra, while the Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst will give the London premiere of the Angel Symphony. Simon Rattle opens the London Symphony Orchestra’s season with the Luxury Suite from Powder Her Face, and Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra perform Adès’ now iconic Asyla

Gustavo Dudamel will present a concert performance of all three parts of Adès’ Dante ballet with the LA Philharmonic, whilst Adès himself conducts Totentanz with the LSO, a late-night concert with the LA Philharmonic New Music Group, and a concert performance of his second opera The Tempest with Britten Sinfonia.
