Faber Music is seeking to appoint a Business Development Director to lead the company’s Harlow-based commercial functions, building sales growth across the whole range of the printed music catalogues within the company’s portfolio. The product range spans world-renowned tutor books and learning resources, graded music exam syllabus materials, classical editions of the highest quality, pop and recreational publications featuring top current acts such as Muse and Radiohead, and popular classics from the 20s and 30s. Through Faber Music’s wider publishing business the company represents an enviable list of internationally-acclaimed contemporary classical composers with works featuring regularly in major concert halls and opera houses all over the world. Its award-winning media and film composers are in high demand for TV and film commissions. An empathy for and strong interest in music is essential.

You will understand success drivers and know how to build on them. Equally, you will be able to use tough retail conditions as inspiration for innovative, profitable new sales and distribution channels. You will also have:
 
  1. Board-level capability appropriate to a company of c.£10m turnover/60 staff.
  2. strong entrepreneurial and commercial instincts.
  3. the appetite and experience to grow a mature business within a retail environment both energised and threatened by technology.
  4. the personality and confidence to form new customer and client relationships and the vision to move existing ones forward.
  5. the resilience and character to motivate and maintain a positive focus across a large team.
  6. strong negotiating skills.
  7. analytical insight and the proven ability to act on it.
 
Based in Harlow, Essex, with regular visits to the company’s Central London office. The role involves overseas travel.
