Steven Isserlis is to premiere Carl Vine’s new Cello Concerto in Sydney on 30 June this year. Commissioned by the Sydney SO it will be conducted by Czech maestro Jiri Bilohlavek in the concert hall of Sydney Opera House. There will be further performances on 2, 3 and 5 July.

Isserlis is no stranger to Vine’s music – he recorded his Inner World for RCA Red Seal and has performed it countless times in both its solo version with CD, and the more recent version for cello, strings and CD.

The Sydney SO will perform Vine’s music again on 11 and 12 August, when they are joined by composer/conductor James MacMillan for performances of the Percussion Symphony (No. 5).
