Newly available are orchestral film and TV suites from Oscar-winning composer Stephen Warbeck and twice Classical Brit-nominated Nigel Hess:  these are two Warbeck suites from Charlotte Gray (starring Cate Blanchett) and the newly-released Hawaiian epic Princess Ka’iulani, plus Hess’s The TV Detectives, an 8-minute orchestral romp through some of his most memorable TV themes.

Warbeck is perhaps best known for his scores to Shakespeare in Love and Captain Corelli’s Mandolin (both already available from the Faber Music Hire Library).

Charlotte Gray starred Cate Blanchett in a wartime espionage drama based on the best-selling novel by Sebastian Faulks.  Warbeck’s 21-minute suite from his original soundtrack score perfectly captures the brooding atmosphere of war-torn France, with solo roles for violin and piano.

Princess Ka’iulani is a historical biopic about the legendary Hawaiian princess who fought resolutely to reinstate the Kingdom of Hawaii following the overthrowing of the monarchy in 1893.  The film premiered at the Hawaii International Film Festival in October 2009 and will be released on DVD on 14 September.  The four-movement suite lasts 11 minutes and was premiered by the Honolulu SO and Gerard Schwarz on 17 October 2009.

The TV Detectives is an 8-minute romp through some of Nigel Hess’s most memorable TV themes, including Maigret, Dangerfield, Campion, Wycliffe and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates.
