This week the Park Lane Group continues its New Year tradition with a series of concerts and masterclasses offering new music performed by new, young artists. The week begins on Monday 7 January with Colin Matthews as the frontline composer and the chance to explore his latest string quartet, No.4, in a masterclass setting. This is followed by a concert featuring two of Matthews’ solo piano works, Eleven Studies in Velocity and the new Berceuse for Elliott Carter, as well as a handful of Matthews’ songs, old and new performed by Louise Alder (soprano) and Gary Matthewman (piano).

Wednesday 9 January sees the performance of David MatthewsPiano Trio No.3 with the Busch Ensemble.

Finally, on Friday 11 January, tribute will be paid to the late Jonathan Harvey. The evening begins with a showing of Barrie Gavin’s moving film portrait of the composer, leading on to a performance of Harvey’s String Quartet No.2 by intrepid young Harvey interpreters, the Ligeti Quartet, and his Sufi Dance for solo guitar given by guitarist Paul Norman.
