A newly-commissioned orchestral score by Nishat Khan launches the six-day Centenary Film Festival in Delhi on 25 April 2013. A Throw of Dice is regarded as one of the classic Indian films of the silent era, released in 1929 and directed by the German-born, Franz Osten.  On an epic scale, the film is based on an episode from The Mahabarata and features a cast of thousands. The 35mm print was restored in 2007.

Nishat Khan's new score will be performed live at the red-carpet event, to be held at the Siri Fort Auditorium.  The composer will play sitar and will sing, accompanied by The Bollywood Orchestra.  The 70-minute score has been commissioned especially for the occasion by the Indian Government and is a highlight of the festival, which celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema, and which also includes a focus on the work of Satyajit Ray.  More details here and click here to see a YouTube interview with the composer.
