We are delighted to announce a new publishing relationship with the legendary Indian sitar virtuoso and composer Nishat Khan.

Khan has written three concerti for sitar and orchestra, which are now available on hire from Faber Music Ltd, for use in performance with the composer.  He also has writing credits on a number of films, and on a recent track “Love is the Answer” by US rock band Weezer from their 2009 chart-topping album 'Raditude'.

Born in Kolkata, India, Nishat Khan transcends musical barriers with his technical mastery and his invigorating and contemporary approach to Indian music.  He is the torchbearer of seven generations and the 400-year old tradition of India’s most renowned musical family.  The son and disciple of Ustad Imrat Khan, he has mastered not only the North Indian classical idiom but also areas as diverse as Gregorian chant, Western classical music, abstract jazz, and Flamenco.  His remarkable intuition for other musical traditions has led to collaborations with performers and composers such as John McLaughlin, Philip Glass, Paco Pena and Evelyn Glennie.

Khan has performed at major venues internationally, including Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center in New York, and the Royal Albert Hall in London.  In 2004, he was invited to perform alongside Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, John McLaughlin and others at the Crossroads Festival in Dallas.  In 2007 he toured India with violinist Vanessa Mae, and in 2008 toured Europe with his pioneering ‘Spirit & Passion’ featuring Flamenco guitarist Paco Pena, and then later that year performed a solo concert at the BBC Proms
