“Every afternoon, as they were coming from school, the children used to go and play in the Giant’s garden.  It was a large lovely garden.  Here and there over the grass stood beautiful flowers like stars, and there were twelve peach-trees that in the spring-time broke out into delicate blossoms of pink and pearl, and in the autumn bore rich fruit.”

1 May 2010 saw the premiere of The Selfish Giant for narrator, childrens’ choir and orchestra, a commission from the Brighton Festival.

Howard Goodall's new 20-minute setting of Oscar Wilde’s classic tale was the festival’s opening event and took place in the Brighton Dome concert hall.  The composer conducted the Brighton Festival Youth Choir with the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra and narration by actor Kolade Agboke.  More information at the Festival site.  For perusal scores/scripts, email us.
