Thomas Adès's first full-scale opera The Tempest, an artistic and box-office success in its premiere run at Covent Garden earlier this year, begins its life in the repertory this autumn, as the London production by Tom Cairns transfers to Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg (and Mulhouse). There will be six performances between 24 September to 12 October, the first of which is promoted by Strasbourg’s Musica Festival. Several of the original cast will be appearing including Cyndia Sieden (Ariel), Toby Spence (Ferdinand), Stephen Richardson (Stefano) and Gwynne Howell (Gonzalo). Daniel Klajner will conduct.

The composer himself takes the baton in Copenhagen for the six performances planned by the Royal Danish Opera, beginning on November 12.

The US premiere will be given by Santa Fe Opera in July/August 2006.
