A Short Tribute to Teenage Fanclub was written as a 4-minute partner piece to Songs for the M8 and when I was thinking about writing it I found myself looking back to the same (grungey teenagery 1990s) time as I did for the other quartet.

 

A lot of those M8 journeys were to see Teenage Fanclub who I was a big fan of. I’ve found myself getting a bit nostalgic and listening once again to their heavy power pop and then wondering what it would sound like with no density or sustain and just the click and attack onto the guitar string. I didn’t want to take any material directly from the band but have worked with layering scaley step lines and rotating chords and keeping the texture pizzicato throughout.
