Programme Notes

Dum transisset sabbatum relates to the music of the three Marys in my church opera Passion and Resurrection in that it is florid and celebrates vocality in its melismatic outpourings. It is a motet sung, not by three women, but by a choir, in Latin, thereby objectivising the early sunlit spring morning moment when the supernatural power of Christianity may first be thought to have begun.
