'I saw Eternity the other night

Like a great Ring of pure and endless light,

All calm, as it was bright…'

The poet Henry Vaughan (1621-1695) is noted for his dramatic and arresting opening images. This setting is in attempt to recreate the sense of sudden wonder and vision inherent in the first three lines of his poem 'Eternity'.
