In the silence

In the Silence is set for solo soprano, solo baritone, SATB choir, oboe, clarinet, cello and organ. The words of John Main, a Benedictine monk, express the importance of silence, of stillness which brings us into the mystery of the risen Christ. The first two short verses are sung in a free chant-like melody, first by a soloist and them repeated by the choir. There are reflective interludes by the two instruments which join the chant melodies together. The third verse expands into a full SATB section concluding with a short coda acclaiming the risen Christ.
