Coined in Elinor Glyn's book of the same title, the word 'It' denoted sex appeal. The word became synonymous with the film's star, Clara Bow. Like Safety Last, It uses the department store as an icon of people's aspirations. Bow plays a spunky sales assistant who aspires to marry the owner of the store. As well as animating the strong conflicts and flirtatious love scenes in the film, Davis's music is infused with the infectious dance rhythms of the Twenties.
