Programme Notes

An atmospheric work with a gripping story, The legend of Baldr is a simple ‘symphonic poem’ split into 25 short sections, linked by spoken narration. Written to introduce instruments of the orchestra, it can be: *performed by intermediate level players, *performed by professional players, to pupils (age 9 – 13), *used in a variety of education outreach settings, In clear, uncluttered textures, Mary Cohen skilfully presents the characteristics of orchestral instruments, and creates vivid, dramatic, and mysterious sound worlds. As well as a Full Score, there are sectional rehearsal scores for Wind, Brass, Percussion and Strings, all containing excellent rehearsal notes and background information.
