Programme Notes

This short song explores the resonances of John Nott's eighteenth-century translation from Lucretius - De Rerum Natura. The soprano sings flowing, transparent melodic lines against the spacious backdrop of a percussionist playing two sound continuums - ambiguous metallic sonorities which fluctuate constantly.

Lucretius was composed in 2008 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of NMC Recordings. It is dedicated with much gratitude to Colin Matthews, composer and founder of the company.
