John Woolrich MALICIOUS OBSERVER They blew up a flag behind his head and it was cutely bled to dwarf and finally dominate his victims faceless as a man can get Cut from a cruel pirouette As doctors in their butcher's best are left to clear away the rest where are the eyes that smile The lips? He used to swear or for furtive kissing As tongues now spill of fingers held and every thing else missing Then heads of state are pasted in To save what's left of childhood with grim nursery songs and simpering Console with dreams of vengeance the deluded and the dim Over night fresh meat arrives displacing that shocking definition So much for that boast of a wanted poster Hung in cynical exhibition To be so feeble minded in this world of educated bombs With a crude montage of messages That reduce us all to peeping toms May not have taken away his life as such may not have stolen his breath But it tore away all that was left and doubled up his death.
