Programme Notes
Peter Sculthorpe Maranoa Lullaby for mezzo soprano and string quartet (1996) This short work is based upon an aboriginal melody from the Maranoa district in Queensland. It was collected by Dr H O Lethbridge in the nineteen twenties and sung to the words: Mumma Warruno Murra Wathunno. According to Dr Lethbridge, these words were repeated many times by a mother rocking her baby to sleep in a bark cradle. Peter Sculthorpe
