Programme Notes

'Sennets and Tuckets' starts at the bottom of the wind band, with a solo for double bassoon, and ends near the top on flutes and piccolo. At the beginning the double bassoon line uncurls and rises slowly up gathering together other instruments around it in huge unison lines. At the top, the entire ensemble breaks out into the first of a sequence of fanfares (the title borrows two of Shakespeare's words for fanfares) which are interspersed with more lyrical (but still fanfare-haunted) passages. 'Sennets and Tuckets' was commissioned by the College Consortium (BASBWE Education Trust, Birmingaham Conservatoire, GSMD, LCM, RNCM, TCM, University of Warwick).
