Celebration (String Quartet No 5)
'At the opening night concert on Friday, Hindson presented a new work commissioned for the festival, his String Quartet No 5 for the Goldners. It’s a fresh one, finished barely two weeks ago, and comprises a single movement with a celebratory impulse. It opens with a plaintive figure for solo violin, and develops a rising sense of anticipation with grinding cello, pizzicato and whoops from the violins. The piece drives to a frenzy and the players rise to their feet in the final ecstatic moments.'
