Programme Notes
The title is a quote from John Milton. A limbeck is a glass, chemical apparatus (an alembic) used for distillation. So my piece, a short set of variations, is about the transformation of some original material. 'Through a Limbeck' was commissioned by the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition.
