Programme Notes

U-Tangia-Na was written in 1991 especially for the CD ”The Sacred Trombone”, for trombonist Christian Lindberg and organist Gunnar Idenstam. It’s a sequel to an earlier trombone piece, 'Hautposaune' for trombone and tape. This is the first piece to be written for the new Conn 36H alto trombone and it explores the technical limits of the instrument. Its playful title may hint at the slightly mad and partly humorous character of the piece - the Swedish speaking listener knowledgeable in Morse Code might decipher a message hidden in the structure. U-Tangia-Na is available in versions for alto-trombone and organ, and alto-trombone and tape. Recorded on BIS-488 CD and BIS-638 CD.
