Mermaid, The
Davis, Carl

This is a musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's heartbreaking fairytale, written by Carl Davies with Libretto by Hiawyn Oram. This is a great school musical, designed for Key Stage 3+, which will capture the imagination of both staff and students alike. The scoring for the work can be flexible, either using just piano accompaniment, or incorporating student instrumentalists and percussion, allowing all performers to create a version suitable to local resources.

Spotlights series

The Faber Spotlight Series and Junior Spotlights represent a variety of top quality repertoire for stage or concert performance, from Key Stage 1 to 3. Some of the cantatas provide scope for creativity through the addition of movement, whilst others are self-contained ‘mini-musicals’. Simple piano accompaniments have been included along with reproducible lyrics and dialogue (where applicable). Accompanying CD’s are available and free licence for the first performance is included within the price of each musical.

Perusal copies for all works are available on request. Cantatas are sold in specially discounted packs of 10 – providing a practical and economic resource for schools, churches and youth choirs.

Torchbearers
Marsh, Lin and Cook, Wendy

Told through the eyes of three present-day school girls, Torchbearers is the story of the women who undertook the perilous voyage from the east coast of England to live in New England in the seventeenth century. Sustained only by their Puritan beliefs, they left all that was familiar to follow their husbands to a 'dark' land, where they saw themselves bringing the light of their faith to the people who lived there.

Jane Landon tries to reconcile herself to fulfil what the new community of women expects of her, despite doubts raised by her questioning spirit. She learns to respect the Native American Indian ways through befriending her slave who she names Rebecca. But when Jane's baby dies the community's prejudice, stirred up by her possessive servant Martha, prompts a witch hunt with terrifying consequences.

Torchbearers, written by Lin Marsh and Wendy Cook, is a full length musical written specifically for girls' voices.
