On 9th April Tansy Davies’ music will form the focus of a UBS Soundscapes: Eclectica concert at LSO St Luke’s. The event offers the opportunity to explore Davies' unique aesthetic: music that swerves around the frontiers of different genres in a space of its own. Atonality comes with attitude, and imaginary folk lines weave their way through atmospheric landscapes. Inspired by skewed architectural structures as much as by natural forms, and informed by Tom Waits as much as by Ligeti and Birtwistle, this is classical music that clusters on the edge of funk.

For her Eclectica evening, Davies’ acclaimed album Troubairitz will be recreated by its original performers, the Azalea Ensemble, duo Anna Snow and Damien Harron, and conductor Chris Austin. Ensemble New Noise will also give a rare performance of Aquatic, while percussionist Joby Burgess will play ritualistic funk hybrid Dark Ground.

Tansy Davies was one of the first participants in the LSO’s UBS: Sound Adventures scheme, resulting in the commission and premiere of her orchestral work Tilting in 2005.
