Fantasia was commissioned by Bernard Foccroulle for the Festival Musica, Strasbourg, on which occasion it would be played on the restored Silbermann organ at the temple of St. Thomas’s. The sound of these fine Baroque pipes was a considerable inspiration for the conception of the piece. It is a study in fluctuating time; balanced by a sturdy chorale element.
