Programme Notes

Grand National from >Champions’ The Grand National was composed for the climatic sequence of the film. Bob Champion had recovered from cancer, the broken leg of his horse, Aldaniti, had heeled and together they took on their greatest challenge at Aintree Park. When I composed the score for this particular sequence, the film had not been completely edited and the final version was cut to this music. It is a literal portrayal of galloping horses, but the principle theme soars over the rhythm and at the climax - Bob Champion and Aldaniti win the race. Carl Davis 27 August, 1996
