From Nourlangie is, like much of Peter Sculthorpe’s work, inspired by the Australian landscape and coastline; the piece is inspired by material from his guitar concerto Nourlangie (1989), which refers to great monolith in the Kakadu National Park, as well as traditional Indonesian music, which is evoked in the piano part. The 4-minute version for soprano, who sings wordlessly throughout, cello, viola and piano begins with a slow introduction, before offering three statements of its principal melody, which grow in intensity.  This 1994 version was created for Mary Wiegold and the Composers’ Ensemble. This product comprises the instrumental parts.
