The Somme100 FILM project is set to commence on 1 July 2016, with a live performance by the BBC Symphony Orchestra and their Chief Conductor, Sakari Oramo, of Laura Rossi's score with The Battle of the Somme film at the national commemorative event at Thiepval Memorial, France. Live orchestral screenings will also take place the same day across the UK, with performances in London, Manchester, Berkhamsted and Southend-on-Sea.

On 18 November 2016, which will mark 100 years since the end of the battle, the BBC Concert Orchestra will perform live with the film at the Royal Festival Hall, London. Other overseas performances include France, Germany, Canada and two performances in New Zealand by The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Supported by the Arts Council England, Somme100 FILM is working with the Imperial War Museums (IWM) as part of the First World War Centenary Partnership. The IWM are offering the film hire free of charge for the centenary year from July 2016 - July 2017, and project partners Faber Music are offering reduced hire fees for the centenary performances. Composer Laura Rossi and specialist film historians can be booked to give pre-concert talks about both the film and the music as part of the live screening. There is also a linked education project with free downloadable resources for secondary schools.

The project aims to mark the centenary with 100 live orchestral screenings. There are already over 50 confirmed and more performances are being actively sought by amateur, professional and youth orchestras.
