The Oxford Lieder Festival has announced its 2021 programme, with four works by Tom Coult programmed, having been the ‘Albi Rosenthal Visiting Fellow in Music’ at Oxford University’s Bodleian Libraries.

On 18 October, soprano Anna Dennis and pianist John Reid will premiere Wholesome Counsels, a new piece that sets texts that Coult has derived from material in the Bodleian Library’s John Johnson collection of ‘Ephemera’ – pamphlets from ointment manufacturers, lyric sheets for music hall stars, and war-time essays by Harry Lauder. The concert is preceded by a conversation with the composer. More information on the premiere here.

Later on the 18th, Adam Swayne will give his third performance of Coult’s Inventions (for Heath Robinson), and the premiere of his complete Gymnopédies for solo piano, while the next day, the Hermes Experiment perform I Find Planets – its second performance since the premiere with the same ensemble at Kings Place, London, in September. More information available from the Oxford Lieder website.
