The Heavens' Flock (Mixed Voices)

Paulann Petersen has written a wonderfully picturesque text set to music in this 4.5 minute unaccompanied mixed choir piece by Ēriks Ešenvalds that takes us to a forest at night and a special moment when a person gathering kindling and firewood becomes aware of the vast sky and the stars filling it. Those stars are likened to the heaven’s flock. The comparison between the majesty of nature and how human life should fit alongside it is one of Esenvalds' favourite themes.
