Composed for members of the London Symphony Orchestra, this short fanfare takes it name from the Latin name for gold.

When writing it I had two things in mind: exploring the purest sounds of the brass quintet (without recourse to mutes or extended techniques), and an image from Dalí (his Palladio’s Corridor of Thalia from 1938).

Aurum was commissioned by The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths for the City of London Festival’s Golden Jubilee.
