Programme Notes
'Envoi' is a short concertante for viola and six mostly soft and dark instruments (alto flute, bass clarinet, marimba, log drums…) There are four sections: the first comes pattering out of silence, the third is a tiny mechanism and the second and fourth are songs for the viola. I wrote Envoi in 1997 in memory of Mary Silverthorne.
