Note from The Holst Foundation
It is not clear when this setting for chorus and orchestra of words from The Book of Wisdom (a Greek text from the first or second century BC, also known as The Wisdom of Solomon) was written. Although the published catalogue of her music suggests 1930, Imogen Holst wrote ‘Probably 1940s’ in pencil on the manuscript, which seems more likely. There is no record of a performance.
