Passing Shadows by Charlotte Bray for solo guitar.
This work was composed in 2012 and first recorded in September 2012 by Antonis Hatzinikolaou.
Commissioned by the Britten-Pears Foundation for Antonis Hatzinikolaou.
An elegant, widely spaced melody sings out opening the work. Deep and unconstrained, this is contrasted with more animated, enlivened sections, which give way again to the melody. The second movement is mellow and tranquil in character, melancholic yet hopefuly. Focusing on two-part writing, melodies are interspersed between a gentle repeated note figure, which appears on three occassions. The final movement is faster, vibrant and playful with a short mysterious passage featuring swooping glissandi appearing twice.
