Trail of Light for flute and cello by Charlotte Bray.

This work was composed in 2008 and first performed on 2 August 2008 at Tanglewood Music Centre, Boston, by Brook Ferguson (flute) and Kathryn Bates (cello).

Programme Notes

Vivid and distinct images of natural light in various forms inspired the work: sunlight burning through dense clouds, piercing glimpses of binding light catching your eye, rushing through the air. Part of this inspiration came from Pablo Neruda's poem entitled Alliance (Sonata) from collection 'Residence on Earth'. The two instruments are in alliance throughout this short piece, together forming one melody with added touches of colour.
