At Faber Music, one of the UK’s leading independent publishers of classical, contemporary, film & TV, pop and printed music, we recognise our responsibility to minimise environmental impact. We are committed to sustainable practices and proud to collaborate with composers, musicians, and authors who share our passion for protecting the planet.
 
As a commercial enterprise, we are conscious of the strain businesses can place on natural resources. That’s why we are dedicated to improving our operations, promoting sustainable choices, and supporting practices that reduce harm to the environment. Our Environmental Committee oversees progress, evaluates initiatives, and ensures accountability across the company.
 
Our Practices
 
In-house
  • Energy-efficient lighting installed throughout our London offices, with motion sensors in shared spaces.
  • A travel policy designed to minimise air travel.
  • Secure bicycle storage to encourage cycling to work.
  • Staff resources promoting sustainable choices, including recycling guidance.
  • Use of recycled stationery wherever possible.
  • Eco-friendly products in staff kitchens on both sites.
  • All food waste composted on both sites.
  • Carbon literacy training offered to employees.
 
Print Publishing
  • All paper and board is FSC certified.
  • Over 95% of publications printed locally in the UK.
  • UK printing partner with a strong ESG policy and active carbon footprint reduction measures.
  • Careful review of environmental accreditations and policies for all print suppliers.
  • Shrink-wrapping or pulping books avoided as far as possible.
  • Minimal reliance on printed marketing materials.
  
Composer Promotion
  • Promotion through digital recordings rather than CDs.
  • Digital-only promotional literature (e.g. newsletters, updates).
 
Distribution Centre
  • Responsible sourcing and disposal of packaging, with active participation in recycling schemes.
  • Smart heating controls in warehouses to regulate energy use efficiently, in compliance with EU standards.
  • EcoTec high-efficiency boiler in our Harlow office, with monitored gas usage to prevent unnecessary consumption.
  • Secondary glazing installed in office areas to reduce energy loss.
  • LED lighting used throughout the warehouse.
