In the historic Fraumünster Church, Zürich, organist Hansjörg Albrecht will give the world premiere a new solo work by David Matthews on the 1 July. The 8-minute work, Meditation, take inspiration from the slow movement of Bruckner’s Second Symphony and plays upon the themes in a series of original incarnations.

Meditation was commissioned as the third instalment of Albrecht’s ‘Bruckner Window’ series – a set of newly composed organ works set to be premiered in locations significant to Bruckner’s life. Following its first performance, Albrecht will bring the Meditation to Westminster Cathedral, London, where it will be recorded for commercial release on Oehms Classics.
