Since its world premiere, Written on Skin has continually impressed both audiences and critics across the globe. And still, after only 18 months since its birth, George Benjamin’s opera carries on receiving wide acclaim and praise. Its most recent accolade is the impressive award for Opera at the 2014 South Bank Sky Arts Awards this January.

It was nominated alongside Welsh National Youth Opera’s Paul Bunyan and Aldeburgh Festival’s Grimes on the Beach.

The Royal Opera House’s production which has been described as a ‘musical masterpiece’ and ‘nothing short of a triumph’ saw sold-out performances in July 2012. Together with the successful partnership of writer Martin Crimp and direction by Katie Mitchell, George Benjamin achieved a masterpiece of modern opera. 

The opera continues its journey with a new production in Detmold in April 2014.
