As the world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8th and Women’s History month throughout March, a new piano anthology and playlist are shining a light on women in music.
The Faber Music Women Composers Anthology is a landmark collection featuring over 50 pieces by women spanning several centuries. While Herstory, published in 2022 and edited by Karen Marshall, focused on historically overlooked composers, this new anthology brings those historical composers into dialogue with the trailblazers of today.
From Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel and Clara Schumann to Hania Rani and Cassandra Miller, the Faber Music Women Composers Piano Anthology champions the talents of women in music throughout history and in the present day, with many pieces appearing here in print for the first time.
With a stunning cover featuring A Conversation by Vanessa Bell, and artistic photographs and images of the composers throughout, this is the perfect way to celebrate music by women on International Women’s Day and all year round.
Andrew Eales (Pianodao) writes,
“Faber Music’s latest excavation of the archives and audit of the airwaves has happily uncovered fresh treasures... The Faber Music Women Composers Piano Anthology deserves high praise, and delivers a fascinating, highly varied, and rewarding potpourri of music by historic and contemporary female composers”
Alongside the anthology, we have curated an International Women’s Day playlist on Spotify, highlighting women artists across Faber Music, Edition Peters, Faber Alt. and Manners McDade.
Journeying through a wide-ranging mix of styles, genres and eras, from historical composers to contemporary classical, film & TV, indie and alternative artists, this is a joyful, genre-crossing celebration of women in music.
