We are offering a unique opportunity for young female composers to have a piece published. Open to female composers who are studying (or have recently studied) composition at undergraduate or post-graduate level, we are looking for a new solo piano composition at around Grade 5 level to include in a publication of piano music by female composers.

The book will be compiled with commentary by Faber Music author, Karen Marshall. Entrants must be aged between 18 to 24 years, studying/have studied in the UK, and must submit their piano piece by midday on 1st August 2021.

Entrants are invited to submit a piano composition that features the music of Hildegard von Bingen (1098–1179), to recognise her contribution to music. Her music is readily available online. As she has written mainly monophonic music, we would like a melody or melodic idea by her to be incorporated into an original composition for solo piano that is appealing, playable and creative.

“We’re very excited to offer an opportunity for young female composers to be published in a piano collection that will itself aim to inspire, educate and guide young pianists. Our aim is to champion the diverse range of music by female composers and to deepen our commitment to supporting the development of young musicians.”
Lesley Rutherford, Publishing Director

The selected piece will be announced by the end of September 2021 and the composer will receive a standard contract for the piece.
