In September 2014 we posted news of our first publishing venture with Lang Lang. A year on, we are delighted to announce that the mastering the piano technique series is now available as an interactive iPad App.

"We recognised a significant gap in the digital marketplace for an educational App which focussed specifically on piano technique. There were lots of great piano-based games and sheet music repertoire available, but nothing which offered professional-quality guidance and support for early to intermediate learners. Lang Lang is renowned for being passionate about both music education AND technology, and indicated to us from an early stage that the mastering the piano books should be published in parallel with innovative digital support materials to encourage the next generation of piano players." Sarah Holcroft, Digital Director, Faber Music

It’s so important to me to find a way to enthuse today’s kids and get them engaged in music. The App offers a unique approach to learning the piano, aimed at a generation who live and breathe technology.”  Lang Lang

The mastering the piano with Lang Lang App reflects the printed publications, sharing the same warm-up exercises, studies and pieces although these have been enhanced with a range of brand new practice tools including a digital notebook and metronome, live audio recordings, interactive annotation, a music glossary and historical context of each composer and work. Every unit explores a particular area of piano technique and contains an exclusive coaching video from Lang Lang.

"Lang Lang has the incredible skill of being able to illustrate the issues surrounding piano technique using simple (and often very amusing) analogies, which young people will immediately understand. When you watch the video clips you really do feel as though he's sitting beside you, giving a lesson." Lesley Rutherford, Head of Publishing, Faber Music

The mastering the piano with Lang Lang App was built by start-up tech company Tido Music, part of the Edition Peters Group. A ground-breaking feature is their ‘reflowable’ musical notation: "Users can adjust the size and orientation of the score to suit their needs and the music automatically adjusts in real time to the new view with no loss of engraving quality or editorial integrity. This has never been done before, and we are proud to be involved in such an exciting technological breakthrough." Richard King, CEO, Faber Music

mastering the piano with Lang Lang is available for iPad from the App Store.
