Blue Sky and Wheatfields is Howard Goodall’s breath-taking tribute to Ukraine, inspired by a painting1 of the same name by Simon Fairless, itself a tribute to the striking blue and gold Ukrainian flag.

The composer says of the piece: 'The reflective piano solo, in the form of a song or hymn without words, imagines a future for the Ukrainian people of peace and freedom, both those Ukrainians fighting for their homeland and those many families who live amongst us here in the rest of Europe, separated from their loved ones.'

The piece receives its broadcast premiere on Tim Lihoreau’s Classic FM More Music Breakfast show on 5th January 2023.

Written for intermediate solo piano, this poignant and reflective piece is available now to download in digital sheet music format.

Howard Goodall CBE is one of Britain’s best-known composers of choral music, stage musicals, TV and film scores. He is also a distinguished music historian and broadcaster.
