Tom Coult is one of 20 composers to receive a prestigious Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award this year. This recognition comes at an exciting moment for Coult, with his appointment as Composer-in-Association with the BBC Philharmonic, a relationship that will be formally launched on 6 November with the premiere of his violin concerto Pleasure Garden. Daniel Pioro joins the orchestra and conductor Elena Schwartz.

The coming months also see a number of performances at the Oxford Lieder Festival, including the premiere of Wholesome Counsels (18 October), a new song cycle for soprano Anna Dennis, and the Hermes Experiment giving the premiere of his I Find Planets at Kings Place (26 September).

Future commissions include a Horn Trio for Musikdorf Ernen (where Coult will be Composer-in-Residence in 2022) and a new work for Wigmore Hall.
