This is a short phrase, a birthday present for my friend Sander, on the occasion of his 78th birthday (he’ll have this birthday half a century from now; the dedication is a wish for a long and happy life). I wrote this piece while living in Holland. It is based on a chorale harmonisation by J.S. Bach, and it’s filtered through a kind of Dutch-ness: like a barrel organ tracing a circle of notes. A simple play of patterns.
