This is an arrangement by Richard Jones of the track Honeyed Words from Anna Meredith's 2016 album 'Varmints'. It was written for the Ligeti Quartet and appears on their album ‘Nuc’ which was released in April 2023 on the Mercury KX label.
PERFORMANCE INSTRUCTIONS
The accompanying violins and viola should create a distinct sound from that of the cello, to reinforce its role as a solo part.
Cello should be played molto rubato (gliss. ad lib.), and the other parts should play in strict time.
The bottom string of the viola should be tuned down to an A.
Both the score and viola part have two staves to illustrate both sounding and played pitches.
If using amplification (recommended where possible), adding additional warm reverb and delay helps a lot with creating the right atmosphere.
